Excerpt from a Letter from the Hapeville Service League 2014 President

"The HSL was founded in 1950 and has been in continuous operation since then. Members serve as volunteers in many different and varied service oriented positions to benefit the city and its residents.

Mrs. Frosty Smith wanted to begin a scholarship for a graduating Hapeville High School senior in the early years of the organization. She was unable to do so in her lifetime. The scholarship was implemented after her death in her honor and has been awarded each year since 1955. Hapeville Highlights Talent is the first time the HSL has attempted to ask everyone in Hapeville to support the Frosty Smith Scholarship Fundraiser by holding it on a Saturday morning at 11:30 am to increase attendance. In past years, the scholarship fundraiser was known as The Fashion Show and held on Wednesday. We hoped moving to Saturday and asking for additional citywide support would help increase donations to this worthy effort. Tickets are $20.00 and include a catered lunch by Volare. $10.00 of each ticket is tax deductible. The Academy Theater is one of our many volunteer entertainers. We are going to have a very good time while achieving our goal of raising $2000.00 for the scholarship. Additional donations will be gratefully accepted.

The HSL is the only organization that meets in the morning. The members are required to attend monthly meetings, pay dues and assessments and perform three (3) hours of service each month which is documented and reported to our 3rd Vice-President in charge. We have eight (8) approved projects ongoing in 2014.

1. Hapeville Manor, Bingo, Marsha Lamb, Captain, meets bi-monthly on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays
2. Family Life Ministries, Lori Gray Gunter, Captain
3. Hapeville Elementary Mentor, Charlotte Rentz, Captain
4. Meals on Wheels, Johnnie Stephens, Captain
5. Pleasant Hours, Shurleen Dorough, Captain, meets monthly on the 1st Wednesday of the month
6. Hapeville Historical Society - Special Projects, Johnnie Stephens, Captain
7. Scholarship Committee, Debbie Settles and Melinda Sileo, Co-captains
8. Clean and Green Initiative, Helen Kellogg, Captain

Our members are dynamic and faithful in their alliegence to the city and its residents. Our recent Clean and Green Initiative has revitalized the Hapeville Clean and Beautiful Commission and recruited volunteers from different quarters to help beautify our city. Other related projects in three of our local schools are teaching our children about the environment and encouraging hands on activities such as planting food and flowers.

We hope to see many of you on Saturday, November 1st at the Hoyt Smith Convention Center and will appreciate any support that you can offer. Tickets to the event as well as $5.00 raffle tickets for fabulous prizes are available now. "
