Short-Term Rental Permit (STR)

On October 4, 2022, the City of Hapeville Mayor and Council adopted the short-term rental ordinance. The City will begin to enforce this new ordinance, which will identify STR properties and implement inspections regarding the permitting process. To view the adopted STR Ordinanceplease click here

This page contains information that will help guide you through the licensing process. Please do not rent your properties until you have completed all the steps necessary for your license. As a result of non-compliance, you may be subject to Hapeville code violations.


Each applicant is required to fill out the application and the owner’s agreement, have the application notarized and submit the required documents for consideration. One application and owner agreement per each STR dwelling is required. A $250.00 application fee is required for the primary dwelling. Applicants operating a second STR unit will require a $1,000 application fee for the additional STR dwelling.

All short-term rental permits are valid from January through December of each year.


Each license will be valid for one calendar year through December 31 of the current year. All STR owners must renew their license(s) on or before the December 31st expiration date.


All STR owners will be referred to the Occupational Tax Permit Clerk for a review of their application. After the application is reviewed and all documents are verified, payment in full must be made before a signed license will be issued.


Due to notary and vetting requirements, all initial STR applications must be submitted in person or via US Postal Service. After STR application approval, payments can be made online.

  • Official government identification of all owners                                              check list                                 
  • Hapeville utility bill
  • Proof of STR ownership 
  • Proof of Fulton County homestead exemption for primary home
  • Proof of homeowner’s insurance
  • Signed and Notarized statement from HOA that STR is not prohibited under lease agreement/ HOA covenant
  • Evidence that the applicant has provided notice via certified letter to each adjacent property of STR intent
  • All outstanding Hapeville obligations satisfied
  • Complete, sign, and notarize the application
  • Google map of the property indicating parking
  • Application fee
